Could the next James Bond be... David Beckham?
Though Tom Hardy has apparently toppled Idris Elba to become the new favorite to play the next James Bond, he may not want to start celebrating yet — amidst the kerfuffle, we all somehow missed that David Beckham's name has apparently been tossed into the hat
Beckham seems an odd choice at first. But take the recent debate surrounding the next Bond, add in Beckham's confirmation that he's looking to begin an acting career, and you've got a rumor

Megatron is more force of nature than football player in 'Madden NFL 16'
After a quiet 2014 hobbled mostly by injury, Calvin Johnson — one of professional football's most talented pass-catchers — is a wildcard play with mountains upon mountains of upside. He could bounce back to catch everything thrown his way, or he could carry on the decline that started in 2014.
But that's in real life, and real life is for suckers. Virtual Megatron is basically frozen in time. His Madden NFL 16 stats reflect the player he was two seasons ago more than the player he is believed to be now. And that means he's unstoppable in Madden.
This video is meant to give you a fighting chance, but you might as well accept the facts: you're either playing as Megatron, or you're losing to him. Read more...

Airplane bathrooms seem like natural places for germs to congregate, but they are far from the most contaminated areas of an airplane.
That distinction belongs to the tray table, according to a new report. That's right: the piece of plastic directly in front of you.
Trip planning website Travelmath sent a microbiologist to test five different airports and four different flights on two major airline carriers. Tests were performed on different items at each airport and on each plane, and then ranked by the median of the results. Read more...

As the rush to create content for the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR virtual reality devices enters full swing, there's an important question: What's the difference between a virtual reality experience and a 360-degree video?
For the answer, look no further than the Los Angeles Philharmonic's new VR experience, which puts you in the middle of a performance by the orchestral group. It goes beyond simple panoramic video and delivers a truly immersive music experience
Created to coincide with the organization's "Immortal Beethoven" event in October, the app sits the viewer right behind conductor Gustavo Dudamel — the best seat in the virtual house. Recorded at the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dudamel leads the orchestra in a stirring rendition of Beethoven's well-known Fifth Symphony Read more...

Okay, celebrity love might be dead. But love among the laypeople — which is just as important, right? — is alive and well. Just ask this elderly couple, who were reunited at an Irish airport in a scene straight out of an early 2000s rom-com.
No, you're tearing up.

Researcher claims to hack self-driving car sensors with simple laser
The self-driving car era isn't yet upon us, but security research is well underway.
Jonathan Petit, a Principal Scientist at Security Innovation, will present a paper detailing how to spoof Lidar sensors used in self-driving cars at the Black Hat Europe security conference in November, reports IEEE Spectrum. Petit claims that he can "trick" a self-driving car into seeing objects that aren't actually there using a low-power laser and a pulse generator.
Lidar — short for Light Detection and Ranging — is a radar-like system that uses pulsed lasers to create a 3D image of the world. In some self-driving cars, Lidar is essentially the eyes of the car. Read more...

For the second week in a row, an expansive dust storm slashed visibility and put hundreds in the hospital with respiratory ailments across the Middle East. The countries most affected include Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan
This storm comes soon after another dust storm, which was shaped like a pinwheeling cyclone that absorbed light, drastically lowered visibility across Iraq on Sept. 1.
The dust storm, which was the result of a dry, late summer air mass and strong winds, struck parts of war-torn Syria on Monday, and moved to a wider area by Tuesday. The poor visibility actually forced a temporary halt in fighting in parts of the country since helicopters belonging to forces loyal to the regime of Bashar Al-Assad were grounded, according to the BBC, which cited Syrian media reports.
