European countries have been scrambling in their responses to the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees and other migrants seeking a safe haven from a brutal civil war that began four years ago. After a great deal of criticism and increasing international pressure, Prime Minister David Cameron announced that the United Kingdom will take in thousands more Syrian refugees. But details have not yet been announced, and the U.N. recanted specific numbers, saying they have not been confirmed. Cameron initially called the influx of refugees a "swarm."
Hungary, meanwhile, recently closed its southern border and created zones where migrants and refugees would be held until receiving a decision on their asylum applications.
